I recently had the privilege to travel down to Houston, TX, for the annual MLB Diversity Business Summit.
The 2013 MLB Diversity Business Summit is the premier sports employment and supplier diversity trade fair. According to their website, “This event allows job seekers and entrepreneurs the unique opportunity of meeting with MLB’s Clubs at both the Major League and Minor League level as well as sponsorship partners.” This is the 2nd year the MLB has taken this on and it has been a great experience so far.
This opportunity has allowed me to network and expand into a new territory, one that I’m personally passionate about. I had the honor of meeting Reid Ryan, President of the Houston Astros and son of Nolan Ryan, as well as presenting to several MLB major and minor league teams on what Parson & Associates can offer them as they embark on an aggressive community outreach campaign as related to the On-Field Diversity Task Force, recently assembled by Baseball Commissioner, Bud Selig.
From the memorabilia like Jackie Robinson’s Negro Leagues Baseball Jersey to the World Series Trophy, the trip to the George R. Brown Convention Center was worth every moment. The entire experience was topped off with a Houston Astros vs. Milwaukee Brewers baseball game at Minute Maid Park in Houston, TX.
